SECRET OVERVIEW

Research team

The SECRET team combines complementary expertise and skills in various research areas including molecular biology, virology, cell and stem cell biology, animal pathology, surgery and bioinformatics. An integral part of SECRET is the institutional support of Croatian Veterinary Institute that will provide excellent working conditions for the established research team.



Dunja Vlahović, PhD, DVM
Postdoctoral researcher fully employed at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine with extensive experience in pathology (histology), molecular diagnostics, and immunohistochemistry. Her expertise will be applied in differentiation tests, but also in molecular methods (microarrays). Dunja will actively participate in research activities, proposal and manuscript writing and disseminating activities.

Tomaž Mark Zorec, MPharm, PhD
Fully employed at Institute for Microbiology and Immunology Ljubljana, experienced bioinformatician and will be responsible for NGS data analysis. His expertise will be valuable for the analysis of NGS experiments data and delivering project O4. He will also participate in networking and dissemination activities such as national and international conferences and workshops.

Nina Krešić, PhD, DVM
Scientific associate fully employed at Croatian Veterinary Institute. As principal investigator of the SECRET project, apart from coordinating all work packages and monitoring the implementation, will be included in most research activities. She will participate in disseminating activities, training courses and workshops. Her experience in virology and stem cells will be exploited to design experiments and draft concepts for future publications to deliver project objectives.
Update: Since November 2022, she has continued her career in Sciensano, Belgium.

Marina Prišlin, DVM
Doctor of veterinary medicine newly employed at the assistant position at Laboratory for rabies. Marina had an excellent track record during her studies at the Faculty (a high average score, research initiatives during the study), has the motivation to work with stem cells and viruses and will perform the majority of research activities within SECRET project.

Dragan Brnić, PhD, DVM
Senior scientific associate at Croatian Veterinary Institute with vast experience in molecular diagnostics of various animal viral diseases. He is the principal investigator in the HRZZ Reco project and will provide support during the project conduction with his experience. Dragan will actively participate in NGS experiments design, conferences and workshops.

Update: In late November 2022, he started his role as a principal investigator of the SECRET project.

Šimun Naletilić, univ. mag. med. vet.
Assistant in Laboratory for Pathology, Croatian Veterinary Institute currently enrolled in PhD Veterinary Sciences study as well as European College of Veterinary Pathologists residency program in the training center in Zagreb. His research interests are animal infectious diseases and tumors. Šimun will participate in implementation of the activities, and dissemination of SECRET project results.
